A 12-year old girl was doing her schoolwork, when she felt a tub in her left eye. Her eyes got watery and she felt something come out her eye. Upon inspection- a diamond.
In march of 1996, a young Lebanese girl, Hasnah Mohamed, scared for her life, tells her parents what happened. That’s when she feels another tug. Her parents watched as a crystal magically appears out of her eye. They rush her to the city of Chtaura to see Dr. Araji, an ophthalmologist. After examining Hasnah, Dr. Araji tells her parents that there is no medical explanation for it, and is an act of god. Soon after, a reporter comes to interview, and in full view of the camera, she cries another crystal, and thus her story spreads.
In 1997, Nabil Matraji of “Share International”, interviews her also. He views that this phenomenon is also a gift from God. When interviewing Hasnah, she tells him that soon after she started producing the crystals, she started getting “Visions”. She says in these visions she gets a visit from a figure dressed in white, a messenger from God. “My white knight” she calls him. At this point she is producing as many as 7-10 crystal shards a day!!
When her story becomes international, it doesn't take long for researcher and former stage magician Joe Nickell to hear. He instantly recognizes the crystals as quartz crystals, also known as “Herkimer Diamonds”. Nickell soon performs a similar act. He gets a similar mineral, the same size as the crystal shards. In his report he says
""Although such stones are indeed sharp – and I could see a dark red spot inside the girl’s eyelid that probably represented a wound from one of them – I decided to duplicate the effect. All that was necessary was to pull out the lower eyelid to form a pouch and drop in a small crystal so that it rested, only a bit uncomfortably, out of sight. A tug on the lower lid causes the stone to come into view and then pop out of the eye. This I demonstrated at an appropriate time for the television camera, allowing their reporter to actually do the extraction himself. The effect was indistinguishable from the Lebanese “miracle.”""
Though it’s sad to say, but before medical research can be conducted, and only a few short months since she began, she stops producing the crystals. Is it a hoax, or is it real?? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
Not to far from Hasnah, is another girl who can cry a mineral, but not shards of crystals. Twelve year old Saadiya Saleh can cry out small pebble-sized stones. When reporters in her village asked about her, several of them say she has always been “blessed with magic”. But other look to a religious figure, and it’s not God, but the Devil. Is she and the village cursed? Perhaps an act of God? Or does she (and possibly the whole village) do it for the attention?
